About
Francesca Sykes Studio produces high-quality contemporary furniture, lighting and sculptural objects in partnership with local manufacturers, in order to reduce carbon emissions from international transport and waste from low-quality mass-produced furniture items.
Based in Naarm / Melbourne, Australia, the studio is open for commissions and provides design services for custom furniture items, shop fittings, retail and showroom spaces.
Francesca Sykes is multi-disciplinary designer with formal training and International industry expertise in Interior Design and Furniture Design & Manufacturing. After completing a Bachelor of Interior Design, she honed her passion for object creation through the Associate Degree in Furniture Design & Manufacturing at RMIT. Francesca joined the Jam Factory Center for Craft and Design as an Associate in the Furniture Studio in 2020, returning back to Australia after working in New York for furniture brand Scandinavian Spaces.
Through her designs Francesca seeks to question and redefine traditional furniture archetypes to suit contemporary needs. Her work examines human interaction with space and object, seeking to create functional and modular forms that surprise and delight.
